What We Do

What We Do

EDUCATION - PROGRAMS:

LIVELIHOOD  PROGRAMS:

Through Financial Literacy and VSLA activities, CEDO has also proved very successful over the years. Over 12,690 women have been directly impacted by the VSLA activities in the programme regions. Through provision of financial services, 73% of the women (by December 2022) had been enabled to initiate or expand their preferred lines of micro-enterprises, 18% of them reported improved housing units, 52% are able to meet their health needs, while 66% are able to cover children’s school costs (2019 KPI Survey/CEDO)

FOOD SECURITY  PROGRAM:

Moreover in 2014, CEDO adopted the Farmer Field School (FFS) extension approach to create changes in behaviors of participating farm families. This was intended to provide an environment in which the participating households acquire knowledge and skills to improve their production and income through application of informed crop management decisions; and resilience and adaptability to changes in their environment.

Young  Population:

In Uganda, 34.8% of the country’s 34.6 million population are adolescents with a similar sex distribution (UNFPA, 2018). Young people aged 10-24 comprise 21% of the total population (6 million) and 78% (20 million) are aged below 30 years. There are estimated to be up to 7.3 million women of reproductive age (15-49), who are expected to give birth to 1.5 million babies in 2015.

Care & Support to Orphans  and Vulnerable children:

At CEDO-Uganda, we continue to be cognizant of the existing situations of orphans and vulnerable children in Uganda. This area of focus is highly embraced through our programming due to the outcomes it may bring if not attended to with strategic planning and support with feasible resources.

As a result, we are thus able to;
Improve the quality of life of Orphans & Vulnerable Children affected and infected by HIV/AIDS through provision of a mid-morning hot meal for the children on each school day

Food and  Economic Rights:

Globally, one in every nine people do not have adequate food, and millions are denied access to land. Governments are failing to protect these rights as increased demand for food, minerals and energy, coupled with large-scale industry, cause a scramble for land and water at the expense of the poor.

Youth Vocational  Skills Training:

CEDO-Uganda has an established vocational skills training program that targets vulnerable out of school youths, equipping them with basic skills in Tailoring, Motor vehicle maintenance, Carpentry and Hair dressing. All VTC students are also trained in basic mathematics, English, entrepreneurship, computer applications, and also placing them for internships within the private sector.

Here, the youth learn critical “soft skills” like communication, professionalism, team work, and basic time and money management before going to the world of self-employment.

Early Childhood  Development:

CEDO promotes early childhood development (ECD) and education in communities by supporting community preschools and other ECD service providers. CEDO trains teachers and develops teaching and learning materials, enabling these providers to expand their reach and improve service quality.

Preschools and ECD services are linked with other service providers in the community to facilitate collaboration and referrals for vulnerable children and families. CEDO also conducts efforts to raise parents’ and guardians’ awareness about the benefits of ECD.

Increased awareness leads to greater demand for ECD and strengthens the community’s sense of ownership around educating young children.
